MERALCO has brought in a new import for its PBA Commissioner’s Cup campaign, but the player who will take the court on Saturday is yet to be determined.
Miller is in town
Head coach Luigi Trillo confirmed former Cornell and Connecticut player Shonn Miller is now in the country to join the Bolts ahead of their game against Magnolia Chicken Timplados on Saturday in Iloilo City.
Officially, Zach Lofton remains as Meralco’s import and a change would only be known on the eve of the Magnolia game.
“Hindi pa namin alam kung si Zach o siya,” said Trillo on Wednesday. “He came in two days ago. Hopefully, he will give us an option.”
Listed at 6-foot-7, Miller is coming off a stint with the Fuerza Regia de Monterrey in the Mexico league where he won a championship with the ballclub just last November.
He also had stops in the G League early in his professional career with the Greensboro Swarm and the Salt Lake City Stars. He also played in Portugal, Greece, and Germany.
Lofton averages 35.7 points
Originally the import of Meralco for the EASL, Lofton came in to replace Su Braimoh in the PBA after suffering a conference-ending injury. Lofton is averaging 35.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 4.3 assists for Meralco over the past three games.
Lofton played for the Bolts on Wednesday in their EASL game against Jeremy Lin and the New Taipei Kings, scoring 20 points.
Meralco is in a crucial tiff against first-placer Magnolia on Saturday at the University of San Agustin Gym in Iloilo City. The Bolts are in third place and are still fighting to claim a twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals.
