FRUSTRATION is starting to build for Meralco and team captain Jared Dillinger can attest to that.
Meralco is coming off another finals appearance in the PBA Governors Cup last season and Dillinger is at a loss on why the Bolts can't seem to carry over their good form into the Philippine Cup.
The Bolts dropped their third straight game in the all-Filipino conference following a 99-91 defeat at the hands of TNT on Sunday , relegating them to 11th place with a 1-3 record, just half a game ahead of the lowly Kia in the table.
“The Philippine Cup has been our Achilles heel and every damn Philippine Cup we get our ass kicked. I’m getting sick of it, our coach is getting sick of it,” said Dillinger.
“He (coach Norman Black) just rung our ass in the locker room about 10 minutes ago. We just got to step up as a team,” he added.
Dillinger finished with 14 points, five rebounds, two steals and a block, but the 6-4 forward feels their problem lies with the little things that aren’t seen on the score sheet.
Against the Ka-Tropa, the Bolts' defense gave up 18 three-pointers.
“It’s just the small details. Sometimes you don’t make the extra pass or make the extra effort on defense. A lot of small things that you won’t see really. After a lot of that adds up, you see what happened to us tonight,” Dillinger continued.
“TNT didn’t do anything much, given they played well but they didn’t have any secret schemes against us. They just passed the ball around, they got open shots. Our effort wasn’t there. We got to put up the intensity cause it sucks right now,” he added.
Despite the horror start, Dillinger isn’t losing hope on a turnaround but warned that the resurgence has to start now, and it has to start within themselves.
“We’re 1-3 and there’s nothing to be happy about. It’s a long season though. We have to go back, look at the film, get yelled at by our coach, look at all the mistakes that we made but more importantly we can’t press the panic button,” said Dillinger.
“We can’t point fingers. We have to first blame ourself within: 'What did I do wrong?' It’s a long season, don’t panic but it’s not fun right now.”
