THE Meralco Bolts have tapped 6-foot-9, 234-pound center-forward Akil Mitchell as import for the PBA Season 49 Commissioner's Cup tipping off later this month, sources bared on Sunday.
Mitchell, 32, has already started practicing with the Bolts after coming in straight from the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA), where he played for the Qingdao Eagles for less than two months.

The Bolts went looking for a new import after its longtime reinforcement, Allen Durham, retired at the end of the Governors Cup.
Before that, the member of the Panama national team has had stints in France, Australia, Turkey, Puerto Rico, Greece, Germany, and the NBA G League after going undrafted in the 2014.
The closest the Virginia standout came to making the NBA were Summer League stints with Houston Rockets, Brooklyn Nets, and New York Knicks.
