PLAYING without five key players, Meralco still proved too much for Phoenix, 114-91, in their tune-up game Friday at the Meralco gym.
Chris Newsome finished with 15 points, while import Allen Durham and Baser Amer each had 14 points for the Bolts in their first tune-up game against a fellow PBA ballclub in preparation for the season-ending Governors’ Cup.
Meralco missed the services of Cliff Hodge, Ranidel De Ocampo, Nard Pinto, Mike Tolomia, and Trevis Jackson, who is resting due to a severe back spasm he suffered in practice just last Wednesday.
The Bolts also had a tune-up game against reigning UAAP champion Ateneo on Thursday, a match which they also won.
The Fuel Masters also played with a shorthanded roster and suffered their second loss in lopsided fashion. They bowed to NLEX, 114-77 last Wednesday.
Matthew Wright, Jason Perkins, and Alex Mallari missed the tune-up game due to injuries.
