MERALCO finally clicked on both ends of the floor as it pounced on a sluggish Talk ‘N Text, 119-85, to establish its first winning streak in the PBA Governors’ Cup on Tuesday night at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Working behind an efficient offense and a stifling defense, the Bolts zoomed to a fast start and sat on the driver’s seat all-game long on the way to notching a second straight victory and fourth overall to move above .500 with a 4-3 win-loss card.

The Bolts thus recorded their biggest winning margin in franchise history and handed their sister squad, which fell to an even 3-3 slate, its worst loss in two years.

“We needed to try to find a personality for our team and we need to stick with that,” Bolts coach Norman Black said. “And I thought we did that today from start to finish—we played good defense and we displayed good offense.”

Import Andre Emmett carried the offensive load as usual with 36 points on 13-of-20 shooting and a perfect 6-of-6 clip from beyond the arc for Meralco, which shot an impressive 56 percent (48-of-85) from the field as a team.

Emmett’s last three-pointer gave the Bolts their biggest lead at 117-82 with a little less than two minutes to go.

On the other end, the men in orange limited the Tropang Texters to 41-percent shooting and forced them to commit 16 turnovers that translated into 24 points.

Their defense was evident on Ranidel de Ocampo, who churned out just three points in the second half after scoring 11 in the first two quarters for TNT, which came no closer than 10 points when the Bolts maintained their sizeable lead.
