MAVERICK Ahanmisi didn’t mind getting on the wrong end of a poster with Manny Pacquiao in the Blitz Game of the PBA All-Star weekend on Friday night, saying he cherished the opportunity to play with the boxing legend.
The Rain or Shine rookie sensation of the Greats team saw the Mahindra playing-coach score against him with a layup in the waning moments of the first half.
While letting Pacquiao score against him in previous possessions, Ahanmisi did admit he tried to block the eight-division boxing champion’s shot with less than five seconds left.
“I let him score a couple of times, (but) that time he scored, I actually tried to block him there,” Ahanmisi admitted with a smile.
“But it’s all in good fun,” added the third overall pick in the last rookie draft. “I hope the fans enjoyed watching.”
Still, Ahanmisi, who finished with 10 points, six boards, five assists, and one steal in 22 minutes in the team’s 99-94 loss, was honored to play against Pacquiao.
“He’s one of my idols in boxing and sports, in general,” the ROS rookie said. “Growing up from where he’s came from, just the hard work and perseverance that you know he’s done and been through, that’s one of the things I look up to him for.
“It was a cool experience playing against him,” added Ahammisi, who won the Obstacle Challenge earlier in the day.
