ANTIPOLO – Maverick Ahanmisi is proud to see brother Jerrick Ahanmisi find his place in the sun with San Miguel even if it means ending their brief partnership at Terrafirma.

“I’m just proud of his work ethic and the fact that he’s finally getting recognized for that is good,” said the older Ahanmisi of Jerrick as the two played against each other for the first time since parting ways prior to the start of the PBA Governors Cup.

Jerrick got the better of Maverick as the Beermen edged out the Dyip in a close contest Saturday night, 109-104, at the Ynares Center here.

Maverick though had the better numbers of 20 points, seven rebounds, and six assists, while going 8-of-14 from the field.

Jerrick finished with nine points and was 3-of-5 from three-point range, while adding four rebounds, six assists, and three steals.

The two briefly played together for the Dyip during the Commissioner’s Cup, but went separate ways after the mid-season conference when Jerrick and Paolo Hernandez were shipped by Terrafirma to San Miguel for Juami Tiongson, rookie Chris Miller, and a second round pick in Season 52 draft.

Maverick said the move was good for the career of his younger brother moving forward.

“He’s been putting in the works so he deserves to play for a team that is going to value him,” said the 35-year-old Filipino Nigerian.

“Obviously, when you go to San Miguel, you know you’re one of the top players in the PBA.”

Maverick said he loved competing against Jerrick as the Dyip almost pulled off a major upset against the Beermen only to unravel in the end game after committing a series of turnovers that cost them the game.

“It’s fun and it’s a blessing (competition). It’s something we dream about for a very long tine. I’m glad he’s getting the recognition he deserves now,” said the Terrafirma guard.

It was the third straight close loss for Terrafirma after similar thrillers against Converge and NLEX to fall at 1-3 in Group A.
