MATTHEW Wright is saddened by the fate that befell childhood friend Norbert Torres, and difficult as it may, the Phoenix star advises fellow PBA players to ignore hecklers.

“The best thing to do is just avoid any confrontation, you never know what they’re capable of doing,” said Wright Tuesday after the Fuel Masters’ practice when asked about the stabbing incident involving his pal, Alaska rookie Jeron Teng, and former La Salle player Thomas Torres in a BGC parking lot early Sunday morning.

“Just turn the other cheek whenever there’s someone heckling you.”

As per official police report, Teng and the Torreses got into an altercation with the group of suspects  Edmar Manalo and Willard Basili after earlier being infront of a bar at the Fort Strip.

Teng got stabbed three times in the back and side, while Thomas Torres received the same number of stab wounds, including a deep one that ruptured the muscles in his triceps.

Norbert Torres' stab wound in his left arm needed 11 stitches to close.

Frustrated homicide charges had been filed against the suspects.

Following his conversation with his friend and fellow Fil-Canadian with whom he grew up with in Ontario and played together with the Nokia-PH Youth team, Wright said Norbert tried to play as pacifier.

“He said he tried to break the fight, but he was in the wrong place at the wrong time,” said the 27-year-old Wright. “He’s OK now and he’s in good spirits,. He’s going on rehab and hoping to rejoin his team as soon as possible.”

Wright describes the incident as ‘unfortunate,’ and came to him as a shock.

“I was really surprised because you don’t normally hear about PBA players being stabbed,” said the Phoenix gunner. “We just hope that Norbert, Thomas, and Jeron have a speedy recovery. That’s all we can wish for at this point.”
