Not shy from rough play, Matthew Dellavedova says PBA 'a lot more physical' than the NBA

    Jul 22, 2017

WHILE not a few people have observed the waning level of physicality in the PBA in recent years, an NBA player not shy from getting rough in Matthew Dellavedova thought otherwise.

The Milwaukee Bucks playmaker, regarded as one of the most rugged players in the NBA, witnessed the PBA’s physicality while on the sidelines at the Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday to watch the Governors’ Cup doubleheader, even going as far as saying that the physicality in the local league is higher than where he plays.

“I think it's a lot more physical here than the NBA,” Dellavedova said in a chat with scribes in the press room. “I think I play, hard but sometimes the NBA is not into the physical side compared to the international game where you have to fight through screens when I play for the Australian team."

“Growing up in Australia, it was always physical and that's how I play,” added the 26-year-old Australian star, who is in town to endorse his new shoe, the PEAK Delly 1.

Dellavedova, though, didn’t mention a particular player from the teams that saw action on Saturday – NLEX, Kia, Alaska, and Phoenix – who possesses the same physicality as he has, but marveled at the Filipinos’ love for the game.

“It's been a lot of fun so far, seeing as how you guys are passionate about basketball,” Dellavedova said. “You made me and my wife welcome and it's been a lot of fun.”
