THE Marcelinos aren't the only twins applying for the 2019 PBA Rookie Draft.
Ateneo's Nieto brothers Matt and Mike are entering the pro ranks as they submitted their applications on Wednesday.
"It's a great opportunity for us to play here sa PBA which is our ultimate goal. Ito talaga pangarap namin ni Mike growing up and now, one step closer na kami to reaching it," said Matt.
The 22-year-old duo have been instrumental in the Blue Eagles' three-peat, including their last victory this UAAP Season 82 men's basketball tournament as they fulfilled the role of the team's leaders.
Matt averaged 7.3 points, 3.6 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.3 steals in his final season in Katipunan, while also preparing young guards SJ Belangel and Tyler Tio for the future.
Mike, on the other hand, was the undisputed leader for Ateneo as his contributions were felt more than his numbers of 4.4 points, 3.5 boards, and 1.1 assists.
Both Nietos are expected to be taken in the first round of the annual draft proceedings, set on December 8 at Robinsons Ermita.
"Super excited kami pero at the same time new environment, new culture, and ibang league altogether. Mas paghihirapan namin dito kasi mga idol na kalaban namin dito. And hopefully dito, may payoff lahat ng learnings namin galing kay coach Tab (Baldwin) and other assistant coaches from Ateneo," said Matt.
Mike chimed: "Syempre, we’re very excited. It’s gonna be a new atmosphere for us and we’re just gonna promise to the team that drafts us that we’ll give it our best all the time just like that we did in Ateneo."
