MATT Ganuelas-Rosser just showed how ready he is when called upon.
With starting guard Alex Cabagnot out with a foot injury, Rosser filled the void as San Miguel posted its fifth straight win in the PBA Philippine Cup - a 107-93 victory over Globalport on Wednesday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Rosser may not have put up Cabagnot’s averages of 19.0 points and 6.0 rebounds, but he produced a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds to help the reigning champion stretch its unbeaten run in the season-opening conference.
He likewise took the place of Cabagnot in the Beermen’s starting unit, all the more boosting his self-confidence following his unexpected trade from TnT KaTropa in exchange for RR Garcia.
“This is definitely a confidence builder for me, personally and for the team,” he said after the game. “I hope to keep on moving forward and keep on getting better.”
The former Gilas Pilipinas stalwart was still recovering from an injury (quadriceps) when he came over to the Beermen following the trade, and didn’t really get to play for the team until the season-ending Governors Cup.
Now fully healthy and with a better grasp of the Beermen’s system, Rosser said he’s starting to feel at home with the team.
“I’m super comfortable now (with them),” said the 27-year-old wingman, who spent his first three seasons at TnT, a franchise he’s been very much identified even before he turned pro in 2014.
“I like this role. I embrace it. My teammates give me confidence, management gives me confidence, and the coaches give me confidence,” he stressed.
While he wouldn’t want Cabagnot to spend the season on the injury list, Rosser said he’s willing to take a more active role for the team if the situation warrants it.
“With Alex down, I’m ready to step up,” he stressed. “I’m just doing my job. It’s fun and it’s good.”
