SANTA ROSA, Laguna – San Miguel pounced on an import-less Alaska, 109-83, on Sunday night to stay perfect in the PBA Governors’ Cup at the Sta. Rosa Multi-Purpose Complex.
Dez Wells scored 25 points to lead six players in double figures for the Beermen, who are one conference title away from pulling off the second grand slam in franchise history.
Terrence Romeo added 18 for the Beermen.
The Aces played without import Justin Watts and slumped to their third straight defeat under new head coach Jeff Cariaso. Watts missed Sunday's game due to a strained calf.
“What can I say. We won this game maybe because they don’t have an import,” said San Miguel coach Leo Austria. “We have enough time to build (the confidence) of the players. I don’t know what happened sa kanila but a win is a win.”
The Beermen started to pull away at the start of the third quarter, stringing up eight straight points for a 57-44 lead. Another run of 11 straight points in the fourth put the game away, 90-59.
June Mar Fajardo scored 10 points and grabbed 12 rebounds while Kelly Nabong also had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Beermen.
JVee Casio scored 16 points while Vic Manuel tallied 14 for the struggling Aces.
