MARCUS Blakely’s stint with Blackwater could well be extended all the way to the PBA Governors' Cup.
The former Best Import is set to take over the place of injured Aaron Fuller in the Elite’s coming campaign in the East Asia League Terrific 12, although management is not discounting the possibility of the 30-year-old Blakely staying for good for the season-ending meet depending on how Fuller recuperates from his ankle injury.
Blakely is arriving in the country just before Blackwater – along with San Miguel Beer and TnT Katropa – leaves for Macau on Monday.
Fuller was supposed to team up with big man Alex Stepheson for the Terrific 12 tournament, but unfortunately rolled his ankle two days ago in practice.
Nonetheless, Fuller will still travel with Blackwater to Macau for the Sept. 17 to 22 meet.

As per doctor’s advice, Fuller will be out of action for at least three weeks, leaving the Elite in a quandary.
The Elite will play their first game in the Governors Cup on Sept. 25 against TnT Katropa.
“We will decide last week of September maybe who between the two will stay,” said team owner Dioceldo Sy on Thursday.
Incidentally, Fuller injured his ankle on the very same day NLEX ceded its rights on the import to Blackwater. The 29-year-old Fuller suited up for the Road Warriors in back-to-back campaigns during the 2017 and 2018 Governors Cup.
Blackwater will try to ask permission for TnT Katropa to give up its rights on Blakely, who played for the team in last year’s edition of the season-ending meet.

The Terrific 12 stint will also factor in the decision on the length of Blakely's stay with the Elite.
The 2013 Governors Cup Best Import saw action for the Katropa in the same conference last year as a replacement to Stacy Davis. But after winning his first two games with the team, the Katropa lost their next three and bombed out of the playoffs race.
Blakely, who won two championships with the Purefoods franchise (2013 and 2014 Governors Cup), is coming off a stint with the Shiga Lakestars and Rizing Zephyr Fukuoka in the Japan B-League.
