Marlou Aquino says 'pass-first' guard Scottie Thompson exactly what doctor ordered for Ginebra

    Oct 26, 2015

YOU'LL know for certain Earl Scottie Thompson has made quite a splash in his PBA debut when you hear that Barangay Ginebra greats Marlou Aquino and Bal David were impressed enough to talk about him.

Nagtawagan kami kagabi. Hanga din daw siya," said Aquino, a day after the former NCAA MVP did a little of everything in Ginebra's 78-86 loss to rival Star in his first game as a pro.

Aquino said the arrival of a pass-first point guard should come as a breath of fresh air for Ginebra, which he said has not had that kind of guard since former playing-coach Robert Jaworski left the team in 1998.

Thompson's arrival comes at a perfect time for Ginebra, which Aquino said need exactly that kind of guard to take full advantage of a stratospheric frontline bannered by Greg Slaughter and Japeth Aguilar who now anchor the triangle offense of new coach Tim Cone.

If he were in Slaughter's shoes, Aquino joked he would treat Thompson to lunch after reach practice.

Nakasama ko sila sa isang charity game last time.

Aquino said a guard like Thompson can also make Ginebra's shooters look good.

Ganun kami nun. Pag di ako open sa baba, hahanapin ni Bal 'yung mga shooter sa labas, sila Jayvee (Gayoso), Vince Hizon at Pido (Jarencio)," he said.

Thompson may be the missing piece in a Ginebra team that has not won a championship since 2008, Aquino said.

Mahusay na point guard," said the pride Sta. Barbara, Pangasinan.
