MARK Yee insisted there was no intention to hurt Ryan Reyes in a play that didn't escape the attention of some PBA players in Kia’s 90-85 loss to TNT KaTropa in the PBA Philippine Cup on Wednesday night.

The former teammates got entangled in a rebound battle in the third quarter, with Yee appearing to lock Reyes’ elbow below his armpit that left the TNT veteran down in pain.

Some players, commenting on social media, immediately called Yee's action a 'dirty play,' but the Kia enforcer was quick to make a denial.

“Wala (hindi sadya),” Yee said. “Hawak ng hawak eh, patakbo yun eh.”

“Sabi ko sa kanya, umarte lang eh, tapos naipit konti lang daw sabi niya. Sabi ko, ‘Ang laki laki mo, umaarte ka.’ Sabi niya, wala, naipit lang,” he added.

True enough, Reyes managed to play until the fourth quarter, having the last laugh as the Texters eked out the victory and handed the Picanto their sixth loss in seven games.

Yee, though, stuck to the positives of the close defeat after Meralco zapped them, 105-76, last Wednesday.

“Although natalo kami, sinunod namin yung gameplan ng coaches tapos...basta try namin lagi dumikit hanggang sa dulo para may chance kami manalo,” said Yee, who contributed seven points, two steals, and one boards in 11 minutes.

The reed-thin Yee doesn’t have to hold the fort down the low anymore with the return of Russel Escoto.

“Si Russel, malaking bagay lalo na pag sa labas, kasi malaki siya na tumitira sa labas eh,” Yee said of the sophomore stretch forward, who made one of his four three-point attempts. “Konting (kundisyon) pa sa ensayo para bumilis-bils pa ng konti.”
