MARK Yee and coaches Tim Cone and Alex Compton are the latest personalities to be at the receiving end of the PBA’s string of penalties.
Yee was penalized for P25,000 for the flagrant foul penalty two he committed during Mahindra’s game against Meralco last week, specifically against Bolts sophomore Baser Amer which led to his ejection. The Floodbuster won the match, 105-92.
Cone on the other hand, was penalized P5,000 for entering the court during an altercation involving Cliff Hodge and rookie Kevin Ferrer in the Ginebra-Meralco game in Iloilo during the weekend which the Kings managed to win, 83-72.
Known for his mild-manner ways, Compton lost his cool for a moment in the Aces’ 97-90 overtime win over the Star Hotshots when he disrespectfully addressed an official and applauded the referee in a sarcastic manner. For the offense, he was fined a total of P6,000.
Hodge was also the recipient of a P3,000 fine for flopping in the same Meralco-Mahindra game, while teammate Justin Chua was hit with a P7,500 fine for a flagrant foul penalty (landing spot) against the Floodbuster.
[See Abueva fined P4K for 'foisting a stickum sign.' What the heck is that?]
Other notable fines were meted on Kevin Alas of NLEX (P5,000) for tripping with contact in the Road Warriors’ match opposite Globalport on Friday the 13th, and Vic Manuel of Alaska (P5,000) for a flagrant foul penalty 1 in the Aces’ encounter with Blackwater two days after.
In all, a total of P67,700 were slapped on 14 players and the two coaches, all of which will go directly to the Players’ Trust Fund for the benefit of retired players.
The infactions range from second motion, verbal altercation, pointing an accusing finger towards a game official, not reporting to the officials’ table, to pulling down the playing shorts while in the free throw line.
Thank God, there’s no 'foisting a stickum sign' violation this time.
