VETERAN NLEX guard Macmac Cardona’s guaranteed win over Barako Bull didn’t come on Tuesday night.
And he had nobody but himself to blame for the Road Warriors’ 87-92 loss to the Energy that prevented the team from securing a seat in the PBA Philippine Cup playoffs.
“Pangit lang din na di maganda ang game ko, eh ako ang sama kaya bad trip ako sa sarili ko,” a dejected Cardona told a handful of sportswriters after the game.
The 6-foot-1 Cardona said his seven turnovers virtually killed the Road Warriors in the game as the number of miscues easily gave the Energy several opportunities to score against them.
“I can do better kesa yung magtapon lang ng bola, ang dami ko kasing turnovers eh.”
The loss relegated NLEX to 10th spot in the standings, putting the team’s playoff hopes in peril.
However, all is not lost for the Road Warriors since a win by the Meralco Bolts on Wednesday against KIA Motors will eliminate the Sorento outright, officially sealing NLEX’s entry into the 10-team playoffs.
But whatever the result of the Meralco-KIA match, Cardona said it is the Road Warriors’ job to play consistent basketball in the hope of taking care of their own destiny in the season-opening conference.
“Kailangan talaga maging consistent ang depensa namin dahil sa depensa walang malas. Eh sa opensa kasi, kahit no. 1 kami sa field goal percentage, may malas din,” he added.
NLEX winds up its last game in the eliminations against KIA on Sunday.
