MARK Caguioa couldn’t help but shed tears when everything was all over for Barangay Ginebra in the PBA Governors Cup finals Wednesday night.

Not really for the franchise winning its first championship in the last eight years after beating the Meralco Bolts in Game Six of the title series, 91-88, but more for close pal JayJay Helterbrand.

The 36-year-old veteran guard admitted it dawned on him that the game could be the last for the other half of the popular 'Fast And The Furious’ partnership which he formed with the 40-year-old Helterbrand.

“That’s why I was crying. I wasn’t crying because we won the championship, I was crying because it might be the last time that we’re gonna be stepping into the court,” said the former league MVP with the basketball net still hanging on his neck.

If this is Helterbrand's farewell game as a pro, he gave a good account of himself as he finished the game with five points, three rebounds, and two assists in 14 minutes of play.

Together with Caguioa, Helterbrand are the only remnants of the last Ginebra team that won the 2008 Fiesta Cup championship.

“As you could tell, we’re super close off and on the court,” Caguioa said of his friendship with Helterbrand, who he would surely miss should he make good his plan to retire now that the season is over.
