MARK Caguioa would rather have more championships than individual glory at this point of his great PBA career.
After achieving another personal milestone on Wednesday night when Barangay Ginebra blasted Columbian Dyip, 134-107, in the Commissioner’s Cup, the former league MVP said he’s more focus on helping the Kings win another title.
“As an individual, I’m OK with it. But I’m looking for more championships before I retire,” said the 38-year-old Caguioa, who finished with eight points in a rare start against Columbian.
“Those points, if I play, it would come,” he said. “I’m not really after anything. I’m more after winning championships.”
Caguioa played for just 11 minutes and shot 4-of-5 from the field to move to No. 15 on the list of all-time leading scorers in league history with 9,931 points.
After scoring four points in the opening period, Caguioa actually already dislodged former MVP Freddie Hubalde (9,927) at No. 15.
By the time the game was over, the 17-year veteran is just 69 points away from becoming the latest member of the PBA’s 10,000-point club.
Again, it’s not about the record, according to him.
“I’m not really going to go after it. I’ll just try to win more championships. That’s all,” said Caguioa.
