MARK Barroca has been tasked to guard Chris Banchero in the PBA Governors’ Cup Finals.
Although he had a big game offensively in Game One of the finals, Barroca said his primary role for the series is to defend Banchero, who has posted career-high numbers this conference for Alaska in the Governors’ Cup.
After a 16-point, six-steal effort in Game One, Barroca only had two points and two steals on Friday, but he emphasized that his focus is on defense particularly on Banchero.
‘Yun talaga match-up ko,” said Barroca.
So far, Barroca said he is happy with how is faring in his match-up with Banchero, who is averaging 10.5 points, six rebounds, and 3.5 assists for Alaska in the series. He is also shooting 8 of 22 from the field in the two games.
But the Magnolia guard added the effort must continue.
So far, nabibigay naman naming ‘yung gusto namin,” said Barroca.
Barroca admitted he was a bit fatigue in Game Two having defended other guards as well aside from Banchero. Nevertheless, he was happy that all of his teammates made an effort on the defensive end, something that was lacking in the first half.
So far, maganda ‘yung depensa namin. Masama opensa namin.
Siguro tinamad. Nag-usap nga kami na kailangan naming manalo doon. Second half, maganda ‘yung depensa namin,” Barroca said.
