Marcus Douthit admits not yet fully in game shape following debut as Blackwater import

Marcus Douthit played his first competitive basketball for Blackwater, four months after suiting up for Gilas Pilipinas in the Incheon Asian Games.

BINAN, Laguna – Marcus Douthit didn’t conceal the fact that he’s still far from game shape despite coming through with a double-double in his debut as Blackwater import in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

Douthit had 14 points, 17 rebounds, and four block shots for the Elite, but came short of helping the team ends its long losing woes in the league following an 88-78 loss to Talk ‘N Text Sunday at the Alonte Sports Complex here.

The Gilas Pilipinas naturalized player admitted he has yet to find his rhythm after being tapped by Blackwater as temporary import after original choice Chris Charles went down with an injury.

“Oh God, “ Douthit told a few reporters when asked about his playing shape. “Probably, 50 percent.”

Proof that he is still not yet in form, Douthit disclosed he began experiencing cramps in the fourth quarter, the same stretch when Talk `N Text counterpart Richard Howell began to take charge for the Tropang Texters.

With Douthit dominant in the third period, the Elite jumped to a 66-60 lead at the end of the quarter but sustained the effort when cramps began to slow down their import.

“You go from not playing for four months, to playing 40 minutes. You can’t explain much more than that,” said Douthit, who last played competitive basketball during the Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea as part of Gilas Pilipinas.
