CALASIAO, Pangasinan – Marcio Lassiter felt right at home here.
Having a good feel of the Calasiao Sports Center in past games by San Miguel Beer, Lassiter certainly likes his chances of finally nailing a first ever Three-Point shootout title in the 2019 PBA All-Star weekend on Friday.
Despite being considered as one of the best marksmen in the league today, the Fil-Am wingman has yet to win the Three-Point contest of the yearly spectacle.
This time, his confidence is a bit high.
“I think this is the year for me,” he said shortly after joining the All-Star mall tour at Robinson’s Place. “I shot well here.”
Lassiter scored 13 points the last time the Beermen played in this first-class municipality known for its famous rice cake, helping the team score a 107-96 win over TnT Katropa in last year’s Governors Cup.
“It’s going to be a very good one. I’m looking forward to doing it this year,” said the Team Pilipinas stalwart.
That doesn’t mean this year’s roster isn’t competitive.
Two-time and reigning champion James Yap of Rain or Shine will be looking to retain his title against Lassiter, Roger Pogoy (TnT Katropa), Simon Enciso (Alaska), Matthew Wright (Phoenix), Philip Paniamogan (NLEX), Robert Bolick (NorthPort), and Michael Digregorio (Blackwater).
Completing the cast are Kevin Ferrer (Barangay Ginebra), Rashawn McCarthy (Columbian Dyip), Baser Amer (Meralco), and Peter June Simon (Magnolia).
Ferrer and McCarthy are late replacements for LA Tenorio and Reden Celda, respectively.
“I think it’s going to be a very good year. Lots of great competitors, and James is always there,” said Lassiter.
