NEW Barangay Ginebra coach Frankie Lim is looking to get sharpshooter Marcio Lassiter in a trade but San Miguel Beer isn't biting so far, multiple sources have told Spin.ph.
According to sources interviewed by Spin.ph, Lim and SMB coach Leo Austria have discussed a possible trade but could not reach a deal primarily because Ginebra have yet to offer anything that can interest the Beermen.
“Wala, hindi sila nagkasundo. Kasi walang maibigay na player ang Ginebra,” said a source who has information about the trade discussions that started three weeks ago.
However, another source bared the proposed deal for Lassiter has already been submitted and is on the desk of San Miguel Corp. big boss Ramon S. Ang, meaning a deal may still happen.
Ginebra, a source said, is willing to part with either Mac Baracael or Joseph Yeo in exchange for Lassiter, a two-way guard with a mean shooting touch and defensive prowess - exactly the type of player Lim covets.
May defender na puwedeng pumutok anytime. Kasi tatakbo ng tatakbo ang Ginebra eh,” said the source.
Both Ginebra and San Miguel are eligible to trade players as they are already out of contention in the mid-season Commissioner’s Cup, but the trade requires a third team to act as a 'conduit' since league rules prohibit sister teams from trading players directly.
Aside from Lassiter, Lim is also said to be interested in former San Beda star forward Jake Pascual of Barako Bull and incoming rookie Garvo Lanete of Hapee.
Gusto niya talaga si Jake, saka 'yung (Garvo) Lanete,” he said.
Even without the trade, Lim has plenty of talented players at his disposal as he moves to turn Ginebra into a superbly conditioned and well-oiled machine that can run at every opportunity.
“Gusto niya muna subukan yung lineup niya ngayon. Pero makikita natin ‘yan. Kasi si Frankie gusto niya lahat sumasabay sa takbuhan,” said a team insider.
