MARCIO Lassiter’s heroics was his way of making up for San Miguel Beer’s complacency against Kia before hammering out a 108-106 win in their PBA Philippine Cup matchup on Friday night.

The SMB sniper knocked the game-tying three-pointer from the left corner before scoring on a catch-and-shoot stab off Chris Ross that prevented the Beermen from being on the wrong end of an upset after the Picanto fought back from 26 points down.

“I kinda let that one slip a little bit,” Lassiter insisted. “We’re up big in the fourth and we didn’t do a good job of closing it. But give credit to Kia. They came out making their shot. It’s what propelled them to come back and actually lead.”

“You know I just try and stay at the moment during the game-tying three and the last shot,” he added. “Just being in the moment and just being ready if the ball comes to me, just being ready to shoot and that’s what happened.”

Lassiter insisted the last play with Ross wasn’t by design, believing it’s their familiarity with each other that led to the all-important conversion off a nifty feed.

“Nah, we don’t practice that. It’s just more of reads,” Lassiter said. “Good thing we have chemistry. You know… the game… it’s never gonna be perfect. So I’m just glad that he was able to make that pass and I was able to convert it.”

As a result, Lassiter, who finished with 22 points, built around five triples, four boards, three assists, and two steals in 35 minutes, didn’t get some ribbing from former teammates Rashawn McCarthy and Ronald Tubid.

“It’s always good to always see Rashawn and Ronald going out there. I know they can play. It’s not a surprise that they’re playing well,” Lassiter said.

“I just feel like, I’m glad we ended up winning 'cause I don’t want to hear it from them," he concluded with a chuckle.
