MARCIO Lassiter took care of business right away and became the newest record holder for the most number of three point shots made in PBA history on Sunday.

The veteran San Miguel gunner was like an assassin on a mission from the get-go, scoring the first basket of the team in its Governors’ Cup game against Barangay Ginebra to kick start his serious bid to finally surpass the great Jimmy Alapag on top of the all-time list.

In no time at all, the Fil-Am shooting guard was already tied with Alapag at no. 1 when he buried a corner three for his second of the night at the 7:41 mark (15-5), before history was finally made as Lassiter connected on a pullup jumper on top of the key with 7:11 to go.

Seconds after he made it to the record books, Lassiter looked up above and had his hands in a prayerful manner as cheers and applause rained out on the greatest three point shooter in league history.

The capacity crowd at the Smart Araneta Coliseum then burst into a frenzy the moment Lassiter hit a fourth from long distance to bring his total to 1,252.

In the din of the celebration, Barangay Ginebra coach Tim Cone called for a timeout as Lassiter’s 12 first quarter points gave San Miguel a 23-7 lead.

And to think the night was still young for the 37-year-old Lassiter, who was mobbed and congratulated by the entire San Miguel team as he walked his way back to the Beermen bench.

Alapag, who texted Lassiter on the eve of the game as he guns for a piece of history, is now ranked no. 2 with 1,250 while Allan Caidic is at third place with 1,242.

Of the three, Lassiter was the more efficient shooter at 39 percent, while achieving the mark by playing in only 537 games.

Caidic did it in 598 games while shooting 37 percent, while Alapag made it behind a 36 percent shooting in a total of 601 games.
