PBA commissioner Willie Marcial said Calvin Abueva is aware of the process as well as the requirements he needs to fulfill before the pro league lifts its indefinite suspension on the Phoenix Pulse star.
Reacting to statements made by Abueva’s wife Sam on social media on Wednesday, Marcial said Abueva is now in the second and final stage of completing the process that would pave the way for his reinstatement.
Abueva was suspended indefinitely by the league for a clothesline tackle on TNT import Terrence Jones last June and lewd gestures directed at the girlfriend of then Blackwater player Bobby Ray Parks.
Nine months on, Sam aired her disappointment towards the league, saying his husband as well as their whole family has suffered enough while wondering what more Abueva needs to do to gain a reprieve.

While he understands Sam’s frustration, Marcial insisted Abueva is aware of all the requirements.
“Tanungin niya kay Calvin,” said Marcial on Thursday during the PBA Media Day. “From the start hanggang ngayon, may pinagusapan kami ni Calvin. Tapos na nga ‘yung first stage namin eh. Nasa second stage na kami nung pinapagawa ko sa kanya.”
“Alam ni Calvin lahat ‘yan,” he added.

Marcial said he and the league chose not to disclose the requirements, for Abueva's own protection.
“Kaya ayoko sabihin kasi pinoprotektan ko si Calvin. Hindi lang naman player ‘yan, kaibigan ko pa ‘yan. Kung si Calvin ang magsasabi, wala akong problema. Sinabi ko kay Calvin hindi ko sasabihin ‘yan kasi pinoprotektahan ko siya. Hindi mangagaling sa akin kasi alam ni Calvin ‘yan at ng management ng Phoenix from the start,” said Marcial.
When asked what point Abueva is now in completing the requirements, Marcial said: “Kakasimula pa lang ng second stage.”
