Marcial firm on Tubid, Nabong penalties despite 'Spidey' appeal

Marcial says he has no plans of rescinding Tubid, Nabong penalty
May 24, 2019

PBA commissioner Willie Marcial said he has no plans of rescinding the penalties of Ronald Tubid, Kelly Nabong, and two officials from San Miguel in their role in the ‘Spiderman’ incident that marred Game Five of the Philippine Cup finals at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

Tubid and Nabong were suspended for three games and fined P75,000 for their role in the commotion where a man in a Spiderman costume named Paolo Felizarta ran to the court late in Game Five of the Philippine Cup finals between San Miguel and Magnolia where he collided with June Mar Fajardo.

Tubid was penalized for punching Felizarta while he was being escorted away from the court, while Nabong was also reprimanded for punching Felizarta’s companion who wore the Spiderman mask for him.

Felizarta has since made an appeal on his vlog to Marcial to rescind the penalties since it was his fault that the whole thing transpired.

But Marcial explained he will not rescind the penalties since Felizarta remains a spectator and a fan and should not be hurt by players.

Marcial said Felizarta’s act of interrupting Game Five of the finals is not an excuse to hurt fans even if he got Fajardo hurt on the incident.

“Mali pa rin ‘yun. Fan natin ‘yun kahit ganun. Mali pa rin ‘yun,” said Marcial.

The recent admission of Felizarta’s mistake, however, will not change the mind of the PBA to file a case against him for interrupting a finals game.

    “Para hindi maulit,” said Marcial.
