MARC Pingris, James Yap, Justin Melton, and import James Mays will sit out when San Mig closes out its PBA Commissioner's Cup eliminations campaign against Alaska on Sunday afternoon.
Pingris has yet to fully recover froma bruised rib suffered in a game against San Mig last week while Mays skipped the strenuous part of practice on Black Saturday due to an upper respiratory tract infection.
“Hindi siya nakapag practice kahapon kasi masama talaga pakiramdam niya. Sinisipon saka malala ang sore throat niya,” said a San Mig insider.
“Mas better na ang pakiramdam niya ngayon. Sinsipon pa pero wala nang masyadong sore throat. Kahapon matindi ang sakit ng lalamunan niya. Nahirapan talaga siya,” said the source.
Here's a video of Mays receiving treatment:
On the other hand, Yap and Melton are nursing hand injuries suffered in the San Miguel game.
But the good news is, the back spasms that has hounded the 6-fot-9 former Clemson Tiger has been eased after the team took a couple of days off during the league's Holy Week break.
“Okay na 'yung back spasms niya. Bumuti buti na yung lagay. Pero syempre, na-e-experience niya 'yun o kaya bumabalik pag nabubugbog ang katawan niya sa laro,” said the source.
“Sa ngayon mahaba yung naging break, kaya nakapahinga yung likod niya. Hopefully, Okay na. Inaalagaan naman namin ng therapy,” added the source.
Depending on the outcome of its game versus the Aces and the result of the Ginebra-Rain or Shine match-up in the nightcap, San Mig should go to the playoffs either as the fourth, fifth, or sixth seed.
