MARC Pingris vowed that the early exit of Purefoods Star in the PBA Philippine Cup will only make the team stronger in the future.
Just moments after the Hotshots’ title reign ended in a loss to Meralco in the first round of the quarterfinals, Pingris was already upbeat as he faced reporters inside the team's dugout at the Cuneta Astrodome.
The Gilas Pilipinas mainstay said Purefoods will bounce back after seeing its run of four successive championships - including a grand slam - come to an end in the all-Filipino conference.
“First time naming hindi nakapasok ngayon. Pero promise namin, itong pagkakatalo na ito, eto ang magpapalakas sa amin,” a defiant Pingris said.
“Alam na namin kung paano matalo. Ganun talaga. May plano si Lord,” Pingris added.
Although he grabbed 11 rebounds against Meralco, Pingris was a non-factor on offense, as he was held to five points in the 77-65 loss to the Bolts.
Pingris said the Philippine Cup campaign will serve as a lesson for the Hotshots, who went off to a struggling start in the conference and never really got untracked.
“Hindi namin kumbaga bina-basta basta ‘yung mga kalaban .. Dapat talaga prepared kami. Kung ano ang sabi ni coach, gagawin namin. Marami siyang sinabi ngayon na hindi namin na-aapply,” said Pingris.
