MARC Pingris found a consolation in Star’s 101-90 loss to San Miguel Beer in the PBA Philippine Cup on Saturday as he managed to block a shot by June Mar Fajardo.
Fajardo was going up for a routine short jumper from the left side early in the third quarter when Pingris surprised him by going up for a perfectly timed block that sent the ball out of bounds and the crowd into frenzy.
“Panis ako kay Ping, na-blanka niya ako,” the reigning league MVP said later. “Nagulat nga ako eh. Kala ko ile-let go na niya yun, pero hindi pala.”
The 6-foot-4 Pingris, though, downplayed his feat against his good buddy, who stands several inches taller than him.
“Part ng game lang naman yun,” the Hotshots star said. “Sa laro, kita niya naman kung paano kami magbantayan, ‘di ba? Pero sa labas, talagang magkaibigan kami.”
“Pero talagang napakagaling ni June Mar,” he was quick to add. “For me, siya yung number one big guy sa PBA na ang hirap i-stop. Talagang marami pa siyang dadaanang finals, championship, at trophy na makukuha niya. So ingatan lang niya yung sarili niya.”
