BOCAUE, Bulacan - Marc Pingris was tasked to guard Japeth Aguilar for the most part of Sunday's marquee match at the Philippine Arena here.

But not even one of the best defenders in the league could do anything to stop the Ginebra forward from tearing Star apart in a 79-86 loss during their Christmas Day match-up in the PBA Philippine Cup.

Aguilar scored a career-high 32 points built on a perfect 5-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc, surprising almost everyone who witnessed the game at the mammoth venue owned by the Iglesia Ni Cristo.

"Well, binigay namin lahat. Talagang sinuwerte si Japeth sa labas. Hindi ko inakala yun," Pingris said. "Marami rin kaming mali kanina, sa mga rotation ... baka nanggigil lang talaga."

Pingris also made special mention of Ginebra sophomore Scottie Thompson, who collared a career-high 17 rebounds - one more than the Star big man's total haul.

"Talo din kami sa rebounding. Pinahirapan kami ni Thompson," he said.

The Star bruiser, though, said they are putting this loss behind.

"Maganda naman talaga yung laban. May nanalo at may natatalo pero kailangan mag-adjust at hindi kami ma-stuck," he said. "Kelangan namin mag-adjust sa next game namin tapos pagbalik namin sa practice, (kailangan naming ayusin) 'yung mga little things."
