Manny Pacquiao turns focus back to Algieri fight after winning PBA debut with KIA

    Oct 19, 2014

FANS may have seen the last of Manny Pacquiao the PBA player, for the time being.

The boxing superstar disclosed he won’t be suiting up in an official KIA Motors game until after his World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight title fight against American Chris Algeiri in Macau.

“Hindi na ako maglalaro, after na lang ulit ng fight,” said Pacquiao, who stakes his 147-lbs title against the unbeaten Algieri on November 22 at the Cotai Arena.

That means the 35-year-old Pacquiao won’t be around when the Sorentos play Barangay Ginebra Kings this Saturday in Lucena City.

Nonetheless, the boxing icon from General Santos City left the crowd with a memorable debut win as playing coach after KIA stunned Blackwater, 80-66, during the opener of the PBA Philippine Cup at the Philippine Arena on Sunday.

Pacquiao played six minutes and 46 seconds in his pro debut that saw him committed two turnovers and a foul.

He didn’t field himself in the second half, but really didn’t mind it at all.

“Hindi baleng di makalaro basta manalo lagi yung team,” he said smiling.

Pacquiao is currently in deep training for his 12-round match against Algieri in his camp in General Santos City. He is scheduled to depart Manila early Monday morning to reunite with trainer Freddie Roach.

The eight-time world champion isn’t sure yet if he’ll personally watch Kia’s game against Ginebra.

“Puwedeng pumunta, puwedeng hindi rin,” he said. “Basta right now, andoon `yung suporta natin sa team. Tiwala namang ako sa assistant coach namin, si coach Glen (Capacio) na siya namang nagpaplano ng lahat.”
