GIVE me more practice and I’ll defend better.
That’s seems to be the message Manny Pacquiao was sending out after he failed in his defensive matchup against Calvin Abueva in the Mahindra-Alaska game in the PBA Governors’ Cup on Wednesday night.
The Enforcers playing-coach said he was eager to defend the Aces star, but claimed he took it easy on Abueva in a first-quarter showdown.
“Oo (gusto ko bantayan). Okay lang naman,” said Pacquiao, who played in his first game since the Philippine Cup. “Maybe next time maka ano na ako. Hindi lang... masyado akong nag ano kanina, relax-relax lang.”
Still, the boxing icon was still game enough to playfully talk trash with the reigning Best Player of the Conference in the Commissioner’s Cup.
“Sabi ko tsamba,” Pacquiao said, referring to Abueva’s three-point conversions at his expense.

He may have lost the match-up, but Pacquiao had the last laugh as Mahindra rallied in the final quarter to complete a 101-95 upset.
Pacquiao confirmed he gave his players bonuses, with one Mahindra player saying he was given P10,000.
“Basta masaya ako ngayon dahil unang una, maagang nag-adjourn ung session,” the newly elected senator said. “May chance ako na makapunta dito at makapaglaro ng konti at mabigyan ng support yung mga players ko.”
