AFTER personally witnessing the exploits of Calvin Abueva, Filipino boxing hero Manny Pacquiao did not hide his admiration for the Alaska Aces' Energy bunny.

"Magaling yung Abueva. Saka bilib ako sa stamina niya at energy," said Pacquiao in a chance interview with Spin.ph after watching Game Three of the Aces' PBA title series against San Miguel Beer at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Alaska won, 78-70, in a game that saw the 6 1 1/2 Abueva score a team-high 16 points and outrebound the entire San Miguel team in the fourth quarter, 10-8, in leading the Aces back from a 21-point, second-half deficit.

The eight-division world boxing champion, who is in Manila to personally supervise KIA's preparation for the coming Commissioner's Cup, said Abueva and the resilient Aces were fun to watch.

Sarap panoorin," Pacquiao said. "Magaling ang teamwork nila, saka yung stamina nila maganda."

Asked what he thinks about Abueva's physicality, which some fans feel already border on being dirty, Pacquiao said it's all part of basketball.

"Okay lang 'yun. Ganun talaga," said Pacquiao before hurriedly leaving the Smart Araneta Coliseum for another round of appointments.

Abueva couldn't believe what he heard when told by Spin.ph about the praises from Pacquiao.

"Totoo ba yun?

Abueva's mother, Evelyn, said she felt so proud.

"Syempre sobrang honored ako kasi isang Manny Pacquiao ang nakapansin at napahanga ng anak ko," said Mrs. Abueva, whose traces her roots to Davao City.

Mrs. Abueva said Pacquiao and her son share a lot of things in common, both having risen from abject poverty.

Mommy Evelyn also bared how 'The Beast' got his toughness from a rough childhood.
