RAIN or Shine is second family as far as Gian Mamuyac is concerned, so much so he’s hoping the current contract impasse between his camp and team management will be over as soon as possible.

While his contract has been auto-extended until the end of PBA Season 50, the fourth-year guard out of Ateneo nonetheless wishes that a fresh, new deal will eventually be reached by both parties.

Despite the auto-extension, negotiations are still ongoing, according to Mamu, who’s represented by the Titan Management Group.

“I think na-express ko na naman yung intent ko to stay with the team. I think the bosses know, the coaches know. So hopefully, magkasundo na,” he said.

The guard admitted asking for a slight increase in his third contract negotiations with the franchise that selected him No. 5 overall during the Season 47 draft.

He stressed the salary raise he’s asking is fair considering he has become one of Rain or Shine’s mainstays and captain as a two-way player in the backcourt.

Despite the minor disagreement regarding his contract, Mamuyac admitted the team has grown close to his heart in the four seasons that he’s been with the organization.

“Iba pa rin talaga yung maglaro para sa mga taong you consider as family. And ganyan kami sa Rain or Shine, close kami lahat diyan. Napamahal na ako sa lahat,” he said.

“I really want to stay and hopefully, may mangyari na sa negotiations.”

His focus for now is with the Elasto Painters’ campaign in the PBA Governors’ Cup , so he isn't thinking about the what ifs should no agreement be reached.

“Hindi ko pa na-explore yun,” Mamuyac added. “As of now focus muna ako dito kasi automatic extension naman ako. So I’m just being professional kasi this game, basketball has given so much to me, so dapat lang that I play the right way every time kahit may contract negotiation talks na hindi matapos, I’ll stay professional and do what I can to help the team.”
