RAIN or Shine regained its winning ways, 91-82, beating Magnolia, on Saturday in the PBA 50th Season Commissioner's Cup at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
The Elasto Painters remained in first place with an 8-1 win-loss record in a game that also saw head coach Yeng Guiao and Magnolia consultant Erick Arejola getting into a verbal altercation in the final moments of the game.
Gian Mamuyac sparked Rain or Shine's rally after being down by as many as 12, finishing with 25 points, 18 in second half.
Mamuyac scored off a turnover to give Rain or Shine a 71-70 lead with 7:38 left in the fourth. He stole the ball on the next possession and assisted Adrian Nocum's first field goal after missing his first seven attempts.
Nocum then drained a three to cap a 10-0 blast and Rain or Shine never relinquished the lead after that.
“Gian played a great game,” said Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao. "Actually, siya nag-anchor sa pace namin. Medyo mabagal kami nung umpisa and we were not making our shots, whether they are three-point shots or free throws.”
“We pushed the pace a little bit in the second half, and nakuha na namin yung rhythm namin, just trying hard to tough it out. This is a tough win for us,” he added.
Jaylen Johnson delivered 25 points and 14 rebounds, including a dunk with 1:21 left in the game for an 87-80 lead that sealed the win.
Clint Chapman recorded 17 points and 11 rebounds, and Jerom Lastimosa and Zavier Lucero had 16 points apiece for the Hotshots, who fall to 4-5 in a tie with San Miguel for seventh place.
Magnolia was in control after a 38-26 lead, but was outscored, 28-21, in the third quarter to relinqiush the advantage.
