GLOBALPORT coach Pido Jarencio commended the effort of Malcolm White, who remained a force for the Batang Pier despite playing hurt in the Batang Pier’s 116-94 win over NLEX in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Wednesday.

Jarencio bared White has been suffering from back spasms since Saturday when Globalport lost to Magnolia in an out-of-town game in Angeles, Pampanga.

“I commend my import, si Malcolm White,” said Jarencio. ”He has back spasms. May injury siya since Magnolia game kaya hindi siya makakilos.”

Playing hurt was not an excuse for White, who finished with 20 points, 14 rebounds, four assists, and four blocks in Batang Pier’s blowout win over the Road Warriors.

White admitted he suffered the injury during the bus ride from Manila to Angeles.

“The bus ride was three hours. I fell asleep and I was in a weird position,” White said. “We got to practice the night before the game and I pulled something on my back.”

The problem on his back, however, didn’t prevent White from going all out for the two games.

“I told myself I need to bounce back and try to recover for this game... It’s still tight but it’s a whole lot better than it was the first time I’ve done it and I had to go right into the next game the next day with a pulled back,” said the LSU product.

Jarencio lauded the effort of White which also led to the rest of the team helping each other.

“Ngayon, naka-focus siya to help the team and at the same time, lahat nagtulong-tulong. All praises to the players,” Jarencio said.
