JUST when you thought it couldn’t get any worse at Mahindra, it did.
Already lacking in firepower, the winless Floodbuster could miss new acquisition Gary David for at least a month due to a knee injury.
After playing just one game for his new team, the veteran shooting guard missed his second straight game on Sunday night, reduced into a spectator in the team’s 94-91 loss to San Miguel Beer in the PBA Philippine Cup.
Floodbuster coach Chris Gavina said David sustained a minor meniscus tear on his left knee that’s being evaluated by doctors.
“If he does need surgery, then he'll be out of commission for at least four to five weeks,” Gavina said.
“(The surgery is) non-invasive, but it's still gonna take time for him to heal,” he added. “We're not gonna force him to come back. If anything, we're gonna get him a hundred percent and ready for our next conference.”
The setback, Gavina said, prompted the signing of young shooter Jeric Teng, who made his debut against the Beermen.
“Jeric showed a lot these past few days of what he's capable of,” Gavina said. “He showed today that he's capable of being a great defender, and once he gets his game legs and his rhythm shots going, I think he'll be fine.”
