MAHINDRA inexplicably called off at the last minute a five-player trade with GlobalPort involving vastly improved gunner Karl Dehesa and former University of the East star Roi Sumang.

The two teams had already agreed on a trade that would have Mahindra sending Dehesa and rookie Mike DiGregorio to the Batang Pier for the trio of Jonathan Uyloan, Paolo Taha, and rookie Roi Sumang.

However, a league official said the second-year franchise withdrew the transaction, even if the papers were already signed by both parties and consequently approved by no less than commissioner Chito Narvasa.

The trade, which broke on Friday, was in fact announced by veteran broadcaster Quinito Henson on national television during the live coverage of Game Three of the Alaska-Meralco semifinals series.

However, Henson later said he got a message from PBA media bureau chief Willie Marcial saying Mahindra has held off on the deal.

A person with knowledge of the trade said Mahindra had reason to back out of the trade, which the source would rather not divulge.

On Friday, Mahindra announced that it has appointed Chris Gavina as new head coach to replace Chito Victolero, who resigned on Thursday after a reported conflict with management.
