MAHINDRA’S rebuilding mode gathered steam on Saturday by signing a pair of promising rookies in Russel Escoto and Joseph Eriobu.
The 6-foot-6 Escoto signed a maximum contract worth P4.5 million good for two years, while Eriobu will receive close to a million in his one-year deal with the Floodbusters.
The two freshmen are so far the most significant signings this past two weeks for a Mahindra side that has gotten a lot of flak after trading away key pieces from its team last year such as KG Canaleta, Aldrech Ramos, and Bradwyn Guinto.
Escoto was picked by the Floodbusters in the special draft involving Gilas cadets. His selection obviously made Ramos dispensable as both big men plays the same style as a ‘stretch 4,’ with Ramos dealt to the Star Hotshots in a trade that netted the team big guard Alex Mallari.
The 6-foot-3 Eriobu from Mapua, was tabbed 4th overall by the team in the regular draft and instantly gives deputy coach Chris Gavina an athletic forward meant to cover up the loss of Canaleta, who was not offered a contract renewal by the Floodbusters.
