BIÑAN, Laguna – Mahindra caught San Miguel Beer in poor form on Saturday, pulling off a 102-96v victory at the Alonte Sports Arena to get back on the winning track in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
Niño Canaleta waxed hot late, burying three straight three-pointers in one stretch, before LA Revilla hit his charities that gave the Enforcers enough cushion to negate a late stand by the Beermen, who are coming off a historic Philippine Cup conquest at the expense of Alaska.
“I’ll take the win kahit ano pa yan,” Enforcers coach Chito Victolero said. “Kung wala man sila sa kundiyson o timing, my players give their best (regardless). I told them na huwag intindihin yung kundisyon ng San Miguel at tayo ang gumawa ng panalo natin.”
The Enforcers thus bounced back from a loss to Blackwater on Valentine’s Day to improve to a 2-1 win-loss card.
Revilla finished with 19 points, while Canaleta added 15 markers in the upset of the Beermen.
Aldrech Ramos carried the Enforcers early, firing 17 of his 26 points in the second quarter, while import Augustus Gilchrist chipped in 15 points, 13 boards, and two blocks.
SMB counterpart Tyler Wilkerson made a solid debut with 29 points, 12 boards, and two blocks in losing effort for the Beermen, who missed starting point guard Alex Cabagnot due to a family matter.
