Mahindra sheds bad luck on Friday the 13th, beats NLEX for first win of season

    Nov 13, 2015

LADY luck finally smiled on Mahindra, ironically on an unlucky Friday the 13th, as it barged into the win column of the Smart Bro-PBA Philippine Cup in style, trampling on NLEX, 103-93, at the Philsports Arena in Pasig.

The Enforcers, who have been competitive in their first three games but fell short each time, finally got over the hump, banking on a strong start and finish behind a balanced effort that saw eight players scoring at least seven points each.

“We played with a sense of urgency,” Enforcers coach Chito Victolero said. “We finally proved we can play for forty-eight minutes.”

Niño Canaleta and Aldrech Ramos delivered in their first game against their former team, scoring a team-high 14 points each in a game which Mahindra playing-coach Manny Pacquiao missed because of an overseas trip.

Kyle Pascual had the same output as the Enforcers dealt the Road Warriors their second straight loss to fall to an even 2-2 win-loss card.

The result spoiled the dominant performance of Asi Taulava, who registered 31 points, nine boards, and one block in 32 minutes.

LA Revilla, who almost singlehandedly rallied the Enforcers before losing to Alaska, 98-94, in Dubai last week, replicated his clutch play as he fired nine of his 13 markers in the payoff period, including a three-pointer that gave his team a 77-60 lead to start the fourth.

The result spoiled the dominant performance of Asi Taulava, who registered 31 points, nine boards, and one block in 32 minutes.

The Enforcers led by as many as 21 points, 91-70, a cushion that proved enough to negate a late comeback by the Road Warriors, who finished the game on a 23-12 run.
