CALVIN Abueva will play in Magnolia’s next game against Converge on Saturday.
That was the assurance given by Magnolia coach Chito Victolero after Abueva showed up in street clothes for the Hotshots’ first match of the 2022-23 Commissioner’s Cup against Terrafirma.

Victolero assured that Abueva will be back in no time but declined to talk at length about his situation, only saying the team didn’t want a previous injury to recur.
“Calvin will play on Saturday. He will play. Ayaw lang namin ma-aggravate ‘yung injury niya. He will start practicing with us tomorrow. The PTs will allow him to play on Saturday,” said Victolero.
Victolero didn’t disclose the injury, only saying that the 'Beast' got it just recently. Magnolia team manager Alvin Patrimonio also declined to reveal Abueva’s injury when asked by SPIN.ph.
“Nito lang, the last three days,” said Victolero.
Abueva’s absence didn’t keep Magnolia from beating Terrafirma, 100-92, behind the play of Nickolas Rakocevic, who had 45 points and 25 rebounds against the Dyip.
Victolero described Rakocevic as ‘another Calvin Abueva’ that could provide the energy and the intangibles aside from his offense and defense.
“Let’s see how he fits with Calvin, with the energy and the aggressiveness na makakatulong sa amin,” said Victolero.
