MAGNOLIA clipped Columbian, 110-103, on Sunday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum to win its second straight game after a slow start to its PBA Commissioner’s Cup campaign.

Ian Sangalang and Paul Lee led a third-quarter pullaway for the Hotshots, who continued to atone for their 0-2 start with two straight victories.

James Farr also rose to the occasion during that third quarter as he repeated his steady play after a lackluster debut two games ago, finishing with 22 points and 11 rebounds in the game.

Sangalang also led the Hotshots in scoring with 22 points, while Lee added 21 as the Dyip slipped to 1-4 despite the entry of new import Lester Prosper, who had 26 points for his new team.

Magnolia coach Chito Victolero was happy to survive its tough schedule along with the entry of Farr, who had jetlag in his debut game last Wednesday against NorthPort where he had 11 points and 14 rebounds but only 5 of 26 from the field.

“Medyo mabigat sa amin. We have back-to-back-to-back games. Happy kasi kahit papaano, naka two out of three kami sa mahirap na schedule,” said Victolero.

The Hotshots were trailing, 62-58, in the third quarter when they zoomed to a 14-point lead thanks to an 18-0 run with Sangalang, Lee, and Farr scoring all but four in that pullaway, enough to secure the victory.

Jio Jalalon also came up with a double-double as he had 17 points, 12 rebounds, and seven assists for the Hotshots.

CJ Perez had 18 points, while Glenn Khobuntin had 14 point for the Dyip.

The scores:

Magnolia 110 – Farr 22, Sangalang 22, Lee 21, Jalalon 17, Barroca 9, Brondial 8, Melton 3, Simon 2, Herndon 2, Ramos 2, Dela Rosa 2, Pascual 0.

Columbian 103 – Prosper 26, Perez 18, Khobuntin 14, McCarthy 11, Corpuz 10, Calvo 6, Celda 4, Escoto 4, Cahilig 3, Camson 3, Reyes 2, King 2, Faundo 0.
