MAGNOLIA seeks to step closer to a quarterfinal berth on Wednesday when the Hotshots face NLEX at the resumption of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The Hotshots face the Road Warriors at 7 p.m. as the league returns following a break to give way for the Fiba Basketball World Cup Asian qualifiers.
Magnolia holds a 4-5 win-loss record, losing to Barangay Ginebra, 104-84, on June 17.
Despite their struggles this conference, the Hotshots can gain at least a playoff for a quarterfinal berth with a victory over the also-ran Road Warriors side.
During the Fiba break, Magnolia signed Wayne Chism for the Hotshots’ last push for a seat in the playoffs.
Magnolia can’t afford to lose in the final two games of the elimination round with Phoenix (4-6) and Columbian (4-7) close behind.
Without Kiefer Ravena and Kevin Alas, the Road Warriors have struggled with four straight losses to hold a 2-8 record entering the final game of the conference where they look to finish with a bang.
In the first game, San Miguel faces Blackwater at 4:30 p.m.
After a slow start, the Beermen have revived their title retention bid and now hold a 5-4 card. They have won two straight games, beating NLEX, 125-114, in its last game in Calasiao, Pangasinan last June 23.
The Elite look to finish the conference with an upset win over the defending champions. Blackwater has only one win in 10 games in the Commissioner’s Cup.
