MACAU finally broke into the win column on Tuesday after upending Titan Ultra, 119-107, in the PBA 50th Season Commissioner’s Cup at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
The Black Knights got the breakthrough victory in their eighth game of the conference, leaning on their outside shooting to put an end to the guest team’s long wait.
Jenning Leung was on fire from the outside, scoring 32 points on 7-of-10 from threes and 1-of-1 from fours.
Fran Yu shot the lights out for Titan Ultra for a career-high 35 points, including five threes, but Titan Ultra still lost for the sixth time in eight games.
Damian Chongqui had 23 points and nine assists, and Phoenix Shackelford had 18 points, 14 rebounds, eight assists, and three steals for the Black Knights.
“I feel like we should be a couple of wins then, but it feels good,” said Macau head coach Marcus Elliott.
Macau made 19-of-39 from threes, and 1-of-5 from fours, with the Black Knights' lead reaching as high as 22 points.
The Black Knights had seven threes in the second quarter where they outscored the Giant Risers, 41-16, and Leung making sure to help his team maintain their big lead by scoring 24 in the second half.
“We've been due for a game like that. Jenning obviously shot the leather of the ball tonight, and I'm happy for him because he didn't have a good shooting night the other night and we rely on them heavily,” said Elliott.
