MACAU Black Bears have expressed their interest to play in the PBA as a guest team for the 50th Season.
PBA commissioner Willie Marcial bared the development, saying the Black Bears want to see action in the Commissioner’s Cup, Governors’ Cup, and even the mini-tournament that the league is planning to hold while the 2026 Asian Games is being held.
Marcial said Macau’s interest to join will be tackled by the PBA board of governors for approval.
The Black Bears are currently playing in the EASL, and are scheduled to face Meralco on Saturday in Ilagan, Isabela.
“Nag-meeting kami ng Macau Black Bears with Lucas Peng (Macau Black Bears general manager), gustong sumali sa atin sa second conference, sa mini-tournament, at sa third conference. Kailangan ko lang masabihan ang board kung ano ang dapat hingiin namin sa kanila.”
The Black Bears are seeking to become the third international team over the last three years to play in the PBA, following the Bay Area Dragons and Eastern.
Marcial said the Black Bears will likely get the same concession as the previous guest teams such as
“Kailangan ng approval ng board. Mag-aadjust kami ng schedule, baka magdagdag tayo ng araw. So tignan natin. Kung ano ‘yung binigay natin sa Bay Area Dragons, ‘yun din ang requirement na hihingiin natin,” he said.
