MAC Cardona is trying to make a step closer to a PBA comeback – and a reunion with his college coach – as he has begun a series of tryouts for GlobalPort.
Months after a family problem led to a suicide attempt, the 35-year-old shooting guard has made the first step of a career revival by suiting up for Zark’s Burger in the PBA D-League Foundation where he showed flashes of his old form.
Now, the 11-year PBA veteran, who last played for NLEX, has earned a look from the Batang Pier where he could reunite with his former La Salle coach and current Batang Pier mentor Franz Pumaren and his former Green Archers teammates.
A picture of Cardona wearing a GlobalPort uniform and joining Pumeren and his fellow La Salle teammates at GlobalPort sparked the talk of a comeback.
Pumaren, though, insisted Globalport has yet to sign Cardona, hinting it will depend on how he performs in the upcoming practices.
“He just practiced with us,” Pumaren said in a text message on Thursday. “We still have to see him in the next few days.”
At GlobalPort's practice, Cardona was reunited with former La Salle teammates Mike Cortez, Ryan Arana and Rico Maierhofer as well as former Green Archer Arnold Van Opstal.
