MAC Belo allayed fears of another long-term injury as he missed Blackwater’s 106-96 win over San Miguel Beer on Friday night due to a strained hamstring.
The sophomore sensation, who missed most of the last Commissioner’s Cup to a knee injury that derailed his Rookie of the Year bid, hurt the ITB (iliotibial band) outside his knee while doing extra work on the bike on Wednesday night.
“Nabigla lang,” the former Far Eastern University star said. “Pero nagpa-check ako kahapon, sabi ng doktor na-strain lang daw. Kailangan lang ng rest.”
“Ngayon lang siguro (ako wala),” he added. “Depende. Papa-check ako next week sa doktor. Sana saglit lang.”
Elite coach Leo Isaac said he sat Belo out more as a precaution to prevent further injury in the long run.
“We don't want to take risks, we want to preserve the player until we get an evaluation and that's the time we will play him,” Isaac said.
Good thing, the Elite hardly missed Belo’s presence on Friday as they pulled off an upset win over the defending champions to snap a four-game skid behind Mike DiGregorio and Poy Erram.
“Swerte ata pag ‘di ako nakalaro eh,” Belo said with a laugh.
