LUCENA – The Luzon All-Star team looked very formidable on the court. Even on the dance floor, too.
With veteran Arwind Santos designated as lead choreographer, the all-star selection is looking to upend its Gilas counterparts during the traditional dance showdown in the Luzon sortie of PBA All-Star week on Friday at the Quezon Convention Center.
Coach Leo Austria disclosed his team that includes the likes of Santos, Calvin Abueva, Jason Castro, Paul Lee, Marcio Lassiter, Japeth Aguilar, LA Tenorio, among others, is diligently preparing its dance routine for the competition that precedes the 7 p.m. match.
The players were able to rehearse their dance number even before the customary team practice.
“Gusto kasi nilang i-please yung crowd,” said Austria on the eve of the Luzon stop of the mid-season classic, unmindful that as a unit, his team has yet to even conduct a shootaround owing to the hectic schedule of the All-Star Week.
“Yung game naman bukas, lalabas yung talent nila,” he added.
For his part, Santos said the Luzon selection doesn’t mind losing the showdown as long as it gets to entertain the fans.
“Manalo man o matalo, importante masaya tayong lahat,” one of three Beermen playing for Luzon squad said. “Para sa mga taga Lucena at taga subaybay ng PBA, para sa kanila ito.”
During the opening leg of the three-part All-Stars, Gilas won over the Mindanao selection to take home the prize of P100,000. The runner-up settled for P50,000.
Austria said Santos will take care of the choreography for the number which he hinted will have a party theme.
The SMB coach is okay with anything - so long as he won't have to be a part of it.
“Since nag-start yung dance contest ng mga players, very athletic naman sila tsaka very flexible,” he said. “Ang ayaw ko lang dun pinipilit nila akong magsayaw. Eh ang sabi ko pang-zumba lang ako. Pero bahala na yung choreographer namin.”
